Lord of the Rings trilogy star Sean Astin has weighed in on Amazon’s upcoming TV series, suggesting that it could be “amazing”.
The streamer’s anticipated and really expensive show is currently in the works, though not much is known apart from the fact that it will be set in the Second Age, years before Frodo Baggins’s quest to destroy the One Ring.
Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee in Peter Jackson’s movies, has now expressed his excitement for what Amazon may have in store as he reflected on his own Middle-earth adventure.
“My advice to them would be to enjoy the ride because the fan base for the movies and the people who love the books is so massive that it’ll be… It was overwhelming to me when those movies came out,” he told ComingSoon.
“How much energy there was. How many people loved it and all of it. So I’m very excited to see how it turns out. If they’re digging a lot into The Silmarillion, it might be new information to me. I have not quite made it through The Silmarillion.”
He continued: “So maybe somebody will do something interesting, and if it stinks, don’t watch it. But I have every expectation that this Lord of the Rings adaptation is going to be amazing.
“It’s been a long time in the making, really talented people working on it, and it only helps people remember 20 years ago when we brought out our version of Lord of the Rings. So it’s good for everyone when stuff like that happens. I think that’s my personal opinion.”
